First Couple Weeks with the Valve Steam Deck

3D printed an insert tray using Acrylic Green PETG using the Dremel Digilab 3D45. It carries the charger, cable, and memories for our Steam Deck.  It fits perfectly into the side pocket of the carrying case.

An Experiment in Shared 3D Printing

Printing “AJ the Frog” on our Dremel Digilab 3D45:

For the past few years, I’ve been using an XYZprinting da Vinci 1.0 Pro 3-in-1 Printer to do 3D scanning, 3D printing, and laser etching but it was a tedious process.  While I enjoy 3D printing, I spent as much time doing calibrating, leveling, and printer maintenance as I did printing.  I vowed that our next printer would have auto-calibration, auto-leveling, and a heated enclosure to control temperature, humidity, and environmental conditions of our filaments and printed objects.

I’m quite happy and thankful to say that we now have a new Dremel Digilabs 3D45 printer with a number of ABS, PLA, and Nylon filaments in a variety of colors and materials.  I can now print in most colors, translucent/clear or opaque, and metallics (gold, silver, copper, aluminum, brass, bronze, …)

As an experiment for family, friends, and co-workers I’m documenting and sharing my efforts as HOW-TO: Cloud-Shared 3D Printing so that anyone (that has a GMail account, mailing address, and mutual trust) can access and print from our Dremel 3D45.

Please feel free to read, critique, or use our documentation and printer! 😆✌️

Letters from the Front

Hi there! (Ken in his Home Office)

Interviewing last week, I was told a great line that I need to remember: “Some people have 20 years of experience, other people have 1 year of experience 20 times over.”

We were talking about personal and professional growth, and how some people are content to repeat themselves whereas others are genuinely interested in becoming old-and-wise sages.

During the same conversation, it was said “We (the IT industry as a whole) use the title Senior like we use the title Adult. Can you do your job? Can you be depended upon to meet the commitments you make? Congrats, you’re a Senior.”

While I continue to interview and wait for what I hope is good news from one or more that I’ve interviewed with, I’ve been keeping myself busy in our home office.  My firewall management, VLANs, virtual servers under VMware ESXi, and our new 3D printer all continue to improve…

Upgrading My 3D Printer and Scanner

DREMEL DIGILAB 3D45

For the past few years, I’ve been using a DaVinci 3-in-1 3D Printer for performing 3D laser scans, laser etching, and 3D printing.

This weekend we’ll be upgrading to the Dremel Digilab 3D45 to I can do more exacting and high-precision 3D prints in an enclosed temperature-controlled environment with auto-leveling bed, HD camera monitoring, and more printing options for use of ABS, PLA, Nylon, and Composite filaments.

Expect to see some VERY cool 3D prints over the next few months as I return to printing functioning mechanical parts and anime/gaming figurines.

For examples of some of my earlier works using the DaVinci 3D printer, I’m on Thingiverse as
