KEN: “Vicky, do you know what tomorrow is?”
VICKY: “Yeah, Kiyomi’s birthday.”
KEN: “Do you know what else tomorrow is?”
VICKY: “Yeah, my Dad’s funeral.”
KEN: “I feel so bad for her. I feel so bad for them both. I would hate to share my birthday with a family member’s funeral, or to have my funeral on someone-I-love’s birthday.”
VICKY: “I know. It couldn’t be helped.”
In Kiyomi’s mind, every day is her birthday. She’s happy, loved, surrounded by toys and her Sheltie friends. It’s the best life she could wish for on a birthday cake. Whenever she gets birthday treats, she’ll enjoy them just as much. Very sorry for your and Vicky’s loss.
